From The Hill:
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi slammed Republicans for holding a nearly all-male hearing Thursday about the White House’s birth-control mandate while Democratic women on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee staged a walk-out.
I'm sorry, but I just can't appreciate or enjoy the outrage. Not any longer. These GOP congressional clowns, not to mention their stumblebum doppelgangers on the presidential trail, have been so tone deaf and so tuned out and so completely ideologically insulated and so thoroughly removed from mainstream America for so long, they have quite simply escaped the orbit of my general notice or punctuated concern.
They are now in their fourth year of full-time, professional disingenuity and adolescent antics. They have lied, dissembled, conspired, obstructed, delayed, shot their mouths off and closed their minds so often I have utterly lost the news value -- and certainly the shock value -- of their inexpressible improprieties and just plain lack of decency.
I realize that my withered withdrawal from these blogospheric explosions of outrage is, in a way, a surrender. I suppose each time (meaning daily, or hourly) the GOP again displays its diseased infantilism, I should add my voice of alarmed disbelief and thundering disapproval to all the others. But I look at it this way: If the American electorate has not by now comprehended that this once Grand Old Party is but a hopeless collection of cretinous misfits and moronic cutthroats, then the American electorate never will.
I think the constant hypocrisy of the right is starting to wear many of us down. But as a woman, I find this invasion of the uterus creepy and perverted. I don't mean to get gross, but what's next? The government demanding that women of reproductive age turn over their used napkins and tampons for autopsies to make sure there are no signs of foul play?

Mr. Carpenter, you wrote an article on 11/22/04 just after Bush won his "mandate" stating that eventually the GOP would just go too far and the dems would win (by default-as usual, unfortunately). Is this what you meant? I know the dems won in '06 and '08, but lost in '10. Could not just Obama but democrats down the ticket win as well in November? Hopefully after what Santorum's sugardaddy said on Andrea Mitchell's show today, his candidacy will be kaput.

As someone who has been actively involved in the choice movement since 1980, I can definitively tell you that insiders knew then that abolition of birth control was the Christofascists' ultimate goal.
Good luck putting that genie back in the bottle.
Lace up those sneakers young women, or forever be damned to hold a Bayer Aspirin between your knees. Granny can't fight this one for you. Too busy keeping the wolf from the door, dontcha' know.

Heck, I'm old enough to remember when the newspaper classifieds section had "Help Wanted - Men" and "Help Wanted - Women" divisions.
Seems unbelievable now, doesn't it? But the GOP as it now stands is the party of those who'd like to take us back to those thrilling times of yesteryear. And the mask they've been using to fool the masses about that is tattering to shreds.
