Well said, P.M., and captures neatly how I came to feel about the man and his uncritical adherents.

This is why I find it rather distasteful of critics of Olbermann are crowing now that he is falling. There was a time when Olbermann was a refuge, an oasis in the desert of the Bush years. He did great work to rally the spirits of those who just didn't understand why so many others seemed to see a great President where we just saw a stumbling baffoon who "lucked" into success.

Yes, he let his ego get the better of him. But that's a cause for sadness, not celebration.

I'll always have a soft spot for the guy because he was, for a while, the best - it sometimes felt like the only- "voice" speaking out against BushCo's atrocities and failures we had - it was legitimately courageous when he began his special comments. But after a while, the quality of his reporting slid as his notoriety rose and I eventually tuned him out. He was so full of himself it was impossible to sit through his show.

And the one common element to these snits he has with his employers is......him.

I also believe Mr Olbermann to be a very good man. If you want a contrasting strategy to getting your point across look to Stephen Colbert, a man of similarly transparent decency. Satire is so much more effective at getting your point across, especially when your on screen persona is ostensibly reporting from within the enemy camp.
