Where has Andrew Sullivan been?
I'd be fine with 3-1 on the spending cuts-revenue increase question. I'd prefer the revenue increases were achieved through tax reform, rather than increasing tax rates. But Romney is stuck with the position that he would even turn down a 10-1 ratio....
Romney is stuck with no such thing. He's forever unburdened by anything so uncontrollably weighty as principles, commitments, or his word. Were he by some miracle to awake tomorrow to a focus-grouped change of right-wing opinion, which overnight had begun to appreciate the immeasurable splendor of a 1-10 ratio of spending cuts and revenue increases, then, well, by God, that would be Romney's position.
It would not be a new position for Romney, mind you. No, no, it would be the position he has always held. This he would let us know, even if it meant correcting a certain Fox News interviewer with the prickly comeback, "Well, Bret, your question is just not accurate. So we're going to have to be better informed about my views on issues."
He really is amazingly thin-skinned for someone who expects to win the Presidency.

Andrew Sullivan is where he always was - on Privileged White Male Fantasy Island, snout firmly fixed in the Beltway All You Can Eat Trough.

First of all, I would like to apologize and thank Mr. Carpenter in advance for the language about to be used in my comment: Just finished watching the first segment of "Hardball" and Rep. Steve Israel left me frustrated with how dumb he is. He said the American people were smart and they will see through what the republicans are doing regarding the debt ceiling fight again. All I can say is Oh my fucking gawd what the fuck is wrong with people? If the American people are as smart as Steve Isreal says they are then why the fuck do they keep electing these fucking crackheads to congress? Why doesn't any body ever ask why such an anti-government party runs for the top government jobs? Doesn't anybody ever suspect their motives? Why does a multi-millionaire like Mitt want a job that doesn't even pay a half a million a year? Of course if Willard would allow the press thirty seconds of his precious time, I doubt any of them would bother to ask and even if they did he would change his answer if asked again and deny the first answer. Jesusfuckingchrist wake up, America!
