Yes, in addition to slaughter from unlimited guns, we have the freedom in this country to prematurely die from horrible diseases, the cures or long-term treatments for which we could fund and find, but congressional Republicans prefer playing the debt game.

About eight years ago, I began wondering what if we used the cost of the unnecessary Iraq War for more constructive uses. A simplistic alternative was to donate $1 billion every year to a state university in every state for their endowment funds for say 10 years. I am pretty sure this would not result in magic ponies and unicorns for everyone, but I am even more convinced it would result in a lot more good than an unnecessary war.

My first thought when I heard about Sally Ride was at least she and Penny are in good company, maybe sharing treatment stories, comparing scars, etc. Of course, my second thought was this really never should have happened...to either woman...or anyone else, for that matter.
