On MSNBC I just heard a pastor explaining the Aurora, Colorado massacre as the presence of "evil" in this world.
Have we really reverted to the medievalism of cosmic good versus pervasive subterranean evil to explain tragic phenomena of the severely diseased human mind? Have we turned the clock back that far? Or did we never advance?
No sane individual would contemplate, let alone execute, such an inhuman monstrosity, to which, however, metaphysical "evil" bears no relation.
If an evil accountability there was in this act, it lay in the gutless politicians who refuse to do anything about the torrent of guns flooding our streets and killing our children and destroying so many innocent lives.
How about you preach about that, Pastor. For God's sake.
In answer to your question, we never really advanced beyond the concept of "evil" existing as some sort of separate entity. And this is not purely a religious theme.
