This is just a damn shame. It was once my amusing custom to spot-check the uniquely awful ravings of WaPo's Jennifer Rubin--her Romney Deification blog is, I imagine, diurnally dipped in bronze by the jealous god himself--but I see that she's gone conventionally meshuga. Her page now reads like a GOP talking point memo, with any unused cliches and excess platitudes swept up at night for tomorrow's recycling.
Her blog once strained (which was what made it so fun) to be one of the big boys, part of the institutional goofy far right, an authentic enrollee of the pseudoconservatively cracked club. Now, well, just how was that induction ceremony, Jennifer?
Her latest, or at any rate the latest I saw: "Obama and Biden scrape the bottom of the barrel." That's the title. And need I point out that any piece so unoriginally titled has already bottomed out?--therefore the best one can say is that it can get no worse?
That's what you'd think, or at least that's what I thought, until I pluckily plowed on. I'll be merciful, which is to say, exiguous in my Rubin-quotation: Obama's surrounded by "political hacks," mostly because "In truth there are few 'wise men' in the Democratic Party with the gravitas and the nerve to tell Obama to clean up his act"; even "The mainstream media find it hard to ignore how low the Democratic ticket has sunk"; every pitiable media attempt to assert campaign-low "equivalency is false, of course" (my emphasis, her delusion); and--brace for insight impact--"we should expect non-stop Romney attacks at the Democratic National Convention."
What did I learn from all that? Only two things. One, that the old Pravda is missing a "journalist," and two, that I really need to see someone about this masochism tic.
You've got to admit, she's the queen of GOP projection. Or at least, given how rampant that trait is among them, certainly right up there in the pantheon of projectionists.

I beg to differ.
Ms. Rubin is within her rights to call "foul" on the Obama campaign. I don't know about all you godless yankees, but around these parts we don't let people change the rules in the middle of a game.
Democrats are not supposed to throw a punch during election campaign. Some of you so-called historians can look it up. They ain't thrown one since 1964.
Now, all of a sudden, Barak HUSEIN Obama wants to start using Chicago style politics and fight back. Where does he get off?
What's next, pointing out Romney's lies in public?
Sorry, I must lie down. I have the vapors.

Out here on the Other Coast, we'll see your Jennifer Rubin and raise you a Debra "The Smirk" Saunders. She's the token conservative the San Francisco Chronicle has seen fit to inflict on the Bay Area for decades. Her forte is heavy-handed sarcasm (she regularly castigates San Francisco as “The Special City,”) and her self-righteous jeremiads on Democrats and national issues read like they come directly out of RNC e-mails. And she’s not one to allow Democrats to confuse her with facts.
Ms. Saunders has recently attempted to go national via the talking head circuit, but her shtick is best described as “Coulter-lite.” She’ll never supplant Ol’ Crazy Eyes.

What at one moment might be described as masochistic at another could be considered positively tonic in a person in need of a powerful purgative. And no one is better than Rubin at really opening the sluices at both gates if you get my drift.
