What the political gods giveth ...
"[I]f people had been in Massachusetts, under Gov. Romney’s health care plan, they would have had health care," said the Romney campaign's Andrea Saul to Fox News [in an earnest pitch for the swing vote] ...
the gods taketh away ...
"OMG. This might just be the moment Mitt Romney lost the election. Wow," tweeted RedState.com editor Erick Erickson. He added on his blog that this might be the moment of Romney’s "Read My Lips" betrayal of his right-wing supporters.
You no doubt recall the "Network"-Ned Beatty scene: "You have meddled with the primal forces of nature, Ms. Saul, and I won't have it!" Well, that's pretty close, and precisely true. All that remains to be learned is if Romney is speaking, along with the base.
And whatever you do, don't mention snakes in front of Mrs. Bel-Goodie.

It depends if the base's hatred of a black guy sitting in the WH is stronger than their sense of betrayal. Also, if the moderate independents see that for what it is, craven pandering. The base will accept pandering much more than will moderates, specially after what Romney has said in the past.

Hopefully this little bit of accidental truth-telling will notify some low-information swing voters that the nonstop propaganda campaign to convince them that Obamacare was fascism-level tyranny and that Obama himself was going to hunt down grandma and send her to a euthanization camp...was all a bunch of steaming bullshit. And then maybe they'll use some sense when they make their decision in November.
I can dream, right?

And how do you imagine the telegrams following this unfortunate eruption of truth went?

Color me unimpressed. This gaffe (in the Kinsley sense) will be thoroughly repudiated tomorrow and then entirely forgotten before Friday's newscycle has bloomed (in all its sickly putrescent glory).
