Atlantic's Jeffrey Goldberg notes, with dripping disdain, the following tweet from RNC Chairman Reince Priebus, sent "before news of the murder of the U.S. ambassador in Libya, but after the sustained attacks on U.S. diplomatic facilities there and in Egypt":
Obama sympathizes with attackers in Egypt. Sad and pathetic.
Integrity and honor, GOP watchwords.
But apparently the party's overall strategy on this is the complete absence of one, the sly bastards. While Mitt Romney restructures and relaunches his campaign--for the presidency of east Alabama--and Mr. Priebus further commits to memory one of Hugh Trevor-Roper's works, Politico reports that "Senior Republicans on Capitol Hill are leaving GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney out on a limb."
Naturally, some congressional Republican rabidity is far too aggressively advanced to arrest now. Sen. James Inhofe, for example, sputtered and foamed something about Obama's "foreign policy of appeasement and apology," as did a couple of cave-dwelling trolls in the lower chamber. By and large, however, GOP lunatics on the Hill have politely asked their staffs to muzzle them like Hannibal Lecter, until the danger of acute self-imbecility passes.
Sad and pathetic, indeed.
"... presidency of east Alabama ..."
Say what you will of my kith and kin, they dispised Romney long before we did. At least, they demanded a shogun for their shotgun wedding.

After their initial disgust and shock, they will eventually come around and try to find ways to defend Romney. This is a party hell bent on self-destruction and there is no sense in stopping it now. Plus, they need to step in line behind their leader, Rush Limbaugh.
