Pennsylvania State Rep. Daryl Metcalfe:
I don’t believe any legitimate voter that actually wants to exercise [the right to vote] and takes on the according responsibility that goes with that right to secure their photo ID will be disenfranchised. As Mitt Romney said, 47% of the people that are living off the public dole, living off their neighbors’ hard work, and we have a lot of people out there that are too lazy to get up and get out there and get the ID they need. If individuals are too lazy, the state can’t fix that.
If that doesn't certify Mr. Metcalfe as an idiot, his Wikipedia entry--a risky resource, but I'm going for it--does; for example in 2009 he declared that "any veteran lending their name to promote the leftist propaganda of global warming and climate change ... is a traitor to the oath he or she took to defend the Constitution of our great nation."
Right. So he's an idiot. That, however, isn't what troubles. No, what troubles is that Mr. Metcalfe has been elected to serve in the Penn. legislature seven times.
I guess an amendment is in order. They cling to god guns and idiots.

No, what troubles is that, in terms of Voter ID, a majority of the country thinks the same way he does.

The 2004 movie, Downfall, depicted the final days of the Third Reich at its headquarters in Berlin. One of the most striking aspects of the movie was the (presumably historically accurate) sceneses of the riotous party/orgy that broke out as the Russian army entered the city.
For the redneck wing of the GOP, the election of an African-American president was the worst-case scenario. His reelection must be beyond all comprehension. With that as a new reality, what will the reneck wing do?
The previews were yesterday. The self-styled "conservative" Republican mouthpieces, such as Limbaugh, are all in - even though they were Romney's most severe critic during the primaries. These predators see and smell crippled prey, and they are hungry. So, they are encouraging their listeners (by way of coaching Romney) to go all in and tell the world what they really think and show the world who they really are.
We could witness an orgy of truth over the next few months - an ugly, evil truth but the the truth about who they are, nonetheless.

Those of us of a certain age will remember, ironically, when one of the signs of an impending dictatorship, at least as far as the right was concerned, was a national ID. Once the government assigned all a number, doom was sure to fall.

Does anyone know what the percentage is of likely Republican voters without proper ID compared to Democrats? Thinking of all the elderly and poorer whites in the Red States where they're passing these laws, it could seriously backfire on the GOP.
