And the Obama campaign comes back with the Truman quote from 1948 "Well stop telling the truth about you when you stop lying about us."

That's what Mitt Romney needs to do unnamed Romney strategist, get out there and do some Powerpoint presentations to show the swing voters the real Mitt Romney. Don't forget to bring your back up steel mallet.

I'll take the blow to the 'ead!

The Obama campaign should do what it can to get out front of each of these speeches. And fact-checkers should make sure they are well-rested and well-nourished on the morning of any "big Romney speech."

I'm sorry to say it, but I find this strategy pretty clever.

This is all about presenting Romney as presidential. And Romney doesn't have any problem to switch back to the center because of two things:

1) Romney won't lose a single republican supporter and he knows it. The tea party faction of republicans are authoritarians. They simply follow the leader if they think he is winning. They don't give a damn about policy. McCain campaigned on a health care mandate but when Obama proposed it that was suddenly the most horrible idea on this whole planet. Bush ballooned the deficit and these people never complained about it. The minute President Obama arrived in office, the deficit became the absolute horrible sin of the Obama administration. And on and on.. Republicans ( the extremist faction especially) are simply a tribe. As long as the leader is winning, they go along; it's SOLELY about getting power and keeping it. No conscience. No consistency. And with the help of the propaganda machine, no reversal of position is impossible

2) the media won't call out Romney for his inconsistency. They are perfectly comfortable with Romney getting back to the center and doing 180 degrees reversals on policy. The media view this as politics. Romney said things to win the nomination, and then will say other things to win the election. Nothing to see there. This has been the story the media wanted to happen.

I'll say it bluntly, I'm very concerned. If I was in the Obama campaign, I would seriously consider to make big speeches too. Plenty of material to work with: lots of great speeches in the last few years, on domestic politics, on war, on foreign policy, on education, etc...
Yes it would look like copying Romney's ideas, but President Obama cannot let Romney suck all the oxygen. ANd negative attacks are not sufficient at this time. If people see Barack Obama in political rallies while they see Romney in settings that make him look "presidential", they'll be tempted to make Romney president for real. I repeat, I'm concerned. I've noticed that Romney has done other things than rallies lately: speaking at an education forum, speaking in front of a group of veterans, etc... He's making himself look credible in controlled environments. ANd it makes for news clips.

The whole strategy of the Obama campaign is about grassroot organizing , and motivating the troops in big rallies. Is it enough ?? I'm afraid not.

I want President Obama on TV !!! And by the way, he should be doing interviews on the big networks. A press conference even. At least after the VP debate.
ROmney was on CNN today. He's killing the president in terms of media coverage. Not good.
