"I’ve never seen anything like this, and frankly, it makes me worried," said Vice President Biden's former economist, Jared Bernstein, about Senate Republicans' extortion of the Congressional Research Service (a branch of the Library of Congress) for having had the academic temerity to find "no correlation between top tax rates and economic growth."
Republicans persuaded, shall we say, the CRS to make the study disappear.
The respected Tax Policy Center has also become a target of Republicans' goonish, anti-intellectual malice, as has the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office and the utterly apolitical Bureau of Labor Statistics. And, as Paul Krugman notes this morning, the latest in Mitt Romney's campaign tactics is essentially that of a protection racket: "Nice country you got here. Shame if something were to happen to it." Or, a vote for Obama is a vote for more brutally obstructionist GOP gangsterism.
This morning we'll suffer yet more GOP-Romneyite-Goebbelseque malevolence if the BLS' report is at all positive.
Brace for impact. Then, if you haven't already done so, go out and vote early against these fascist thugs.
