Speaking of cluelessness:
"We didn’t think they’d turn out more of their [African-American] base vote than they did in 2008, but they smoked us," said one Romney operative. "It’s unbelievable that that they turned out more from the African-American community than in 2008. Somehow they got 'em to vote."
You fool. YOU got 'em to vote. Your voter-suppression tactics motivated and mobilized like nothing else could have. You fool. You absolute fool.
They just can't see that this year, the voter supression tactics were so obvious, so blatant, that it actually made many people more inspired to vote.
In 2008 and 2004 they were far more subtle and undoubtedly hurt Kerry and probably kept Obama's numbers down.
It was most particularly the AA and Latino communities that rose up in rage. Not the white voters.

Ah, but when one looks upon blacks and Latinos as fundamentally lazy, criminal moocher inferiors who won't lift a finger without government assistance, it's impossible to foresee any reaction to one's actions that doesn't fit snugly within the caricature.

Further to analyzing the "What the heck happened?" bewilderment of the Romney team, I recommend this neat bit of analysis at No More Mister Nice Blog:

Hey, I'm a 72 year old white woman and believe me I know a liar when I hear one. Nothing, but nothing has ever prompted me to vote for a Republican and it's only getting worse...I love the enroads women, gays, blacks, Latinos, union workers are making,...been waiting for this too long!
