Kevin Drum asks us to quit our national religion:
Don't worry so much about Republicans. Worry about getting the public on our side. If we do that, the GOP will either back away from crazytown or else it will die a natural death.
Ain't gonna happen, Kevin. The American political tradition is one of parading immeasurable disdain for the other guys, of tooting the horn of imminent doom and banging the drum of looming hopelessness. Though naturally the gods must hear of our pious virtues, principally we must entreat divine relief and celestial protection from the wicked ones.
What you ask, Kevin, is one bridge to rationality too far. We like it just the way things are, thank you very much. We are a sinfully righteous people.
