From Foreign Policy:
This week, a number of Republican senators have strongly criticized the administration for failing to properly explain the circumstances surrounding the Sept. 11 attack on the U.S. mission in Benghazi. Some of those senators [John McCain, Rand Paul] failed to show up for a briefing on the attack Wednesday.
Is it really necessary to point out--again--that the GOP is a profoundly unserious party? That it's void of ideas but brimming with malice? That it's an attack machine and nothing else?
I once believed that a sound electoral thrashing of the Republican Party would mitigate its degeneration and simultaneously impel internal reforms--an honest-to-God, come-to-Jesus, Socratic reexamination of its every existential being. Last week was close enough to said thrashing. And yet the party only seems to be degenerating more maliciously than ever.
It may be beyond hope.
2008 was an even larger thrashing. And I had hoped the introspection would have taken place then. Instead they doubled down then and are doing it again.
It appears the only legitimate elections took place in 2010 and 2008 and 2012 were anomalies.
Hopefully, all the anger and motivation that existed for the left this year will still be there in 2014.

This is just icing on the cake. Pop Pop McCain really doesn't like to be challenged: http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2012/11/15/mccain-skips-benghazi-briefing-gets-testy-when-questioned-by-cnn/

When fundamentalists are defeated, they perceive themselves either as martrys or backsliders whose defeat was punishment from God for compromising their principles. In other words, defeat only makes them more sure of the righteousness of their cause. The best we can do is outnumber them, expose their hypocrisies and cruelties to lower-information, unbeholden voters, and raise up our kids not to become fundamentalists. Because once you become one, you're usually lost for good.
