Chait enumerates an "emerging Republican strategy on the debt ceiling," which entails what Chait further characterizes sarcastically (I trust) as "an important intellectual development on the right":
[S]tep one: Block any compromise to reduce the deficit. Step two: Blame Obama for failing to reduce the deficit.
Chait adds, "I actually think this plan can work."
Of course it can, if by "work" one means enthralling those rank-and-file Republican primates who squat ready to re-rattle the primary cage.
After all, we're still marveling at the internally successful GOP strategy of (1) blocking all efforts to create jobs, then (2) blaming Obama for failing to create jobs.
Such logic-brutalization may gladden connoisseurs of Marquis de Sade as well as those tire pressure exceeds their IQ, but political anthropologists remain appalled, even if a bit in awe of it all.
Oh for eff sakes, when will it ever end? Can't Obama just declare martial law and put Americans back to work on infrastructure, education and the environment just to name a few? Sometimes I think that's the only way anything is ever going to get done, but I guess we are not in a situation that warrants such a drastic move.
