Now seemed like an excellent time for yet another in our series of Jennifer Rubin psych-checks. I figured if her malignant hysteria matched in magnitude the SOTU-lovers' ecstasy, then President Obama probably hit the right notes. And sure enough, Rubin came through, with blasting trumpets and frantically flying colors:
The debt is crushing the economy, yet the president spends with abandon. Growth remains anemic, yet he raises taxes and labor costs. We are flush with energy, yet he strangles the economy with uber-regulation. And we face a world of threats, yet he hollows out the military. It was a standard issue wish list, with little poetry or uplift, and even less smart policy.
"The debt is crushing the economy," "Growth is anemic," Obama is strangling energy production and "hollowing out the military." Hysteria check, check, check and check; psych-check complete. Indeed the debt is just about the only thing propping up the economy, and growth would be rosy-cheeked if we would just add another trillion or so in stimulus, domestic energy production has soared under Obama, and even the suggestion that he's "hollowing out" our military, whose budget remains the world's unapproachably, obscenely largest--well, these are but tiresome facts, and not propaganda "helpfully blasted out" by the Republican National Committee, so what of them would Rubin know?
"Spends with abandon"? I believe that was the last guy, gleefully aided and abetted by many of the same people who are all of a sudden crying about the debt today.

So PBO is spending like crazy but putting the poors at the Pentagon in the poorhouse. That's some trick.
