I'm taking book on the lifespan of this latest White House argument, and betting "short" on the side:
"Our biggest problems in the next 10 years are not deficits," the president said, according to accounts from the meeting [with House Republicans], bluntly rejecting an idea that has become Republican fiscal dogma.
The president is right, but politics and intellectual correctness rarely coalesce.
The GOP has invested years of fiscal hypocrisy in its deficit hysteria by structurally crippling government's revenue while simultaneously running up an astronomical tab, and since 2011 the White House has done little to dispel the resulting, easily marketable frenzy--until now.
So reversing now all the conventional wisdom of our dooming indebtedness is, as they say, quite a heavy lift. My guess, too heavy; hence we'll soon be hearing from both sides, once again, the politically easy stuff about deficits and the debt--and hearing little to nothing of intellectual integrity.
Enjoy it while you can.
Given the likelihood of the Republicans abandoning their long term investment in dogma I'm guessing Higg's Boson short.
