The most encouraging news I've read today is that the House leadership won't whip tonight's (yep, it's back on) vote. An orphaned loser of a bill has real potential. From Politico:
Some top Republican aides and lawmakers say Boehner will put the bill on the floor even if it fails. Allowing a bill to go down on the House floor would be an attempt to show House Republicans that they do not have the support they need to pass their own bill.
The most discouraging news I've read today is that the House leadership--at its very highest level--may have already gone completely bonkers. Again, from Politico:
Drastic tactics are being considered in House Speaker John Boehner, Majority Leader Eric Cantor and Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy’s world: there’s discussion of voting on their bill and, if it passes, leaving town.
