Ted Cruz's triumphant surrender a few moments ago was a McCarthyite thing of beauty. Sniveling, disingenuous, evasive, accusatory, both hubristic and cowardly--it had it all. It was as though the besotted ghost of Wisconsin's badgering demagogue was once again haunting the nation, but showing its backside. Cruz scurried from reporters just as fast as his little booted feet would carry him.
Not until, however, he made clear to his menacing troops--out there--that they shall menace again. For now, as Ted himself enlightened us, woe be to Ted, whose faithless senatorial colleagues sold out The Cause. Yet all is not lost, for there remains a solid core of notoriously harebrained jackasses in the House--and they're Ted's kind of people, Ted's people's kind of people. Glory be, and they, of course, shall rise again yada yada insert standard-issue demagogic bullshit here.
Like I said, it was beautiful. A despicable coward in full retreat, pointing fingers and hurling blame but nonetheless declaring a victory out of rack and ruin and then fleeing for cover.
We needn't ask this demagogue if he has any decency, at long last. I'm beginning to suspect he hasn't even a soul to corrupt.
