If you missed Fox News' Republican presidential debate last night -- geez, now there's a clause that screams for air quotes -- don't bother asking the nation's most powerful Republican how it went, because "as the debate began," according to the NY Times, "the House speaker, John A. Boehner, took a seat at a steakhouse in Washington."
In another official endorsement of apathy, Reince Priebus, the Republican National Committee's chairman, said of the sparse and unknown participants, and I kid you not: "As we all know, there are numerous other candidates that are looking at it — and thank God."
Go ahead, look it up, that's what he said.
Then, just to sanction our apathy, the Times reported post-debate what we all expected pre-debate: "For much of the time, the evening unfolded like a typical night of political programming on the Fox News Channel."
Politico provided even more in-depth reporting on this enlightening evening of vigorous Socratic dialogue: "The GOP hopefuls who were on stage for the 90-minute debate barely engaged with each other."
Zzzzzz.
