"I do trust [Obama] as a negotiator," affirmed Boehner. Yet he also characterized the president's negotiating habits as incorrigibly gelatinous?
Such is the immensely dishonest consistency required of the Republican Speaker. It's tough to blame Boehner personally, even if he did encourage the enlistment of uncompromising lunatics into his House ranks. He's squeezed, he's but the nominal leader not of a party but of a treasonously radical gang of anarchists and nihilists, and he sees no way out.
Because, very likely, there isn't one -- just as his party has wanted it.
I hope he is regretting the summer of "Hell no you can't!" During the health care battles of 2009. He now knows what it's like to have to deal with the intasigence of his own party. If the situation weren't so serious, I'm sure Nancy Pelosi would be pointing and laughing at him right now.

I daresay the urban dictionary is now using a closeup of Boehner in its entry on "Be careful what you wish for; you might get it."
