Anybody have any idea of what Jeb Bush was talking about?
"I'm excited that I think we're seeing the renewal of the conservative movement in the Republican Party and I want to be part of that, for sure," he said in an interview Sunday on CNN's "State of the Union."
I get the "want to be part of that" part. But, part of what? What "renewal" is he referencing? What conservative movement, or, more precisely, which movement? The McCain-Kristol-bomb-bomb crowd? The Paulite daisies-in-rifle-barrels crowd? The austerity-is-too-temptingly-stupid-to-refuse crowd? The Ozzie-Nelson-denies-June-Cleaver-her-contraception crowd? The we-just-got-our-butts-kicked-and-yet-we-learned-nothing crowd?
Or perhaps the conservative movement is Fox News' declining viewership. Or the general embarrassment of talk radio. Or the lunatic blogosphere. Or the diminishing electoral percentage of whites who watch nothing but Hannity and listen only to Limbaugh and devoutly believe every forwarded email spawned by lunatic blogs about Obama's imminent declaration of a dictatorship.
Are we sensing a pattern here, Jeb?
You still sure about wanting to be part of it?
It is a curious big tent. Everyone who firmly doesn't believe in something, be it science, or economics or human rights for others is welcome. Sort of.
