I'm reading the good doctor, Ben Carson, and the Bible this morning. First Carson, on Facebook:
Republicans that take issue with my position are amazing. Under Islamic Law, homosexuals – men and women alike – must be killed. Women must be subservient. And people following other religions must be killed.
Next, the Bible:
Leviticus 20:13: "If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination; they shall be put to death."
Colossians 3:18: "Wives, be subject to your husbands."
Deuteronomy 13:6: "If your brother, the son of your mother, or your son, or your daughter, or the wife of your bosom, or your friend who is as your own soul, entices you secretly, saying, 'Let us go and serve other gods'..., you shall kill him."
Yes I know. Such Biblical "wisdom" is dismissed by contemporary Christians as a kind of contemporaneous cultural embarrassment; we — or rather they, the Christians — are no longer the sexist, intolerant, bloodthirsty savages of yore. But do you, Dr. Carson, not extol all of Scripture as the Word of God? Can you, a mere mortal, Dr. Carson, amend His Word? Are you permitted to redact It as you see fit, in all your human fallibility? I think not. I believe not.
I myself do believe that if there is a God, She is not so ignorant or cruel.
