In 2013 Italian programmer Alberto Brandolini fashioned an axiomatic internet law, fittingly named Brandolini's Law. It's popularly known as "the bullshit asymmetry principle."
The asymmetry refers to the gargantuan effort required to defeat the emergence and wildfire spread of bullshitting disinformation since the effort is overwhelmed by bullshitting disinformationists' extraordinary ease in creating and circulating it.
The law/principle states: "The amount of energy needed to refute bullshit is an order of magnitude bigger than that needed to produce it."
The public's reception of Trump and the far-right's lies, misinformation and disinformation is eloquently, superexactly and more broadly characterized by Agent K, Man in Black: "A person is smart. People are dumb, panicky, dangerous animals."
My take on tonight's o.5 presidential debate was contained in a reply to The NY Times' Nicholas Kristof, who tweeted as the debate proceeded, "I wish Biden would reflect on this debate performance and then announce his decision to withdraw from the race, throwing the choice of Democratic nominee to the convention."
Reply: "Thanks for your idiotic 'wish.' You're hung up on 'performance' like so many shallow political commentators and entirely missing substance, which Biden has offered in spades while Trump stands there dodging questions and lying every second."
I get so sick of people saying Biden should be replaced, but they never name names. I also get sick and tired of all the whining and complaining from voters and idiot commentators thar we are "stuck" with Biden and Trump, conveniently forgetting that they are the two who won the majority of all votes. Democrats had the opportunity to nominate someone else in 2020, but they (myself included) chose him. I have no regrets about my choice, and I will still vote for him in November. But I am tired of all the whining.
